Pilot Study in Hampton

The Fundy Region Solid Waste Commission, with the support of the Town of Hampton, is conducting a pilot project to determine how bag limits affect households, and if it is an effective way to reduce waste.  This pilot is taking place in a neighbourhood in Hampton for a period of 10 weeks beginning in July.

It’s simple.  Households in the study area receive a kit with 20 red garbage bags, compost bags and a recycling tote bag.  Once the kit arrives at the door, we are asking residents to start using their red bags for garbage.  There are enough bags for 2 bags per week.  If more bags are required before garbage collection day, residents simply use their own regular bags.

Did you know?

The average household in Hampton is already producing less than 2 bags per week.  In May & June we monitored garbage set out. The average set out rate is 3.1 bags/2 week collection.

That’s 1.5 bags per week.

Your feedback.

Staff from the Commission will be conducting surveys of the participants throughout the pilot project.
