1. Place the Kitchen Bin in a convenient location (under the sink, beside the garbage can, etc.), and post the Compost List where everyone can see it.
2. Line your Kitchen Bin with newspaper or a compostable bag, and place all food waste in your Kitchen Bin, instead of throwing it into the garbage. (You’ll be amazed at how little garbage you have.)
3. Empty the Kitchen Bin into the outdoor Compost Cart. (Green Cart Care provides tips for maintaining your Compost Cart and Kitchen Bin). For yard waste, simply place it directly in the cart.
4. Even if the cart is not full, always put your cart curbside on pick-up day.
Collection of your garbage and compost is handled by your municipality or local service district, except in Quispamsis and Grand Bay-Westfield where residents must contact a private waste hauler. Find the Waste Hauler in your area.
The Compost Facility at Crane Mountain Landfill produces Grade A Finished Compost, returning valuable nutrients to the soil. * If you live in an apartment, please check with your landlord. Often apartment buildings with more than four units are considered commercial properties by municipalities, and landlords must arrange for private waste pick-up.
