Congratulations to KVHS!

Congratulations to KVHS for starting a composting program at their school! A few students started the program by proposing the idea to their principal, Mr. Smith. Once they had permission to start a composting program, they set up meetings with Fundy Region Solid Waste, the custodians and cafeteria staff, as well as the district. The students had to consider how many bins they would require in their school and request them from Fundy Region Solid Waste.

Interested students from all grades got together to form a “Green Team.” These students planned and organized an Earth Week event at their school, set up composting bins and advertised the new program. Their goal was to increase students’ awareness of composting and to reduce waste. The Earth Week event was successful and educated students on the importance of composting through PowerPoint presentations, posters, games and a barbecue!

Thank you KVHS for taking the initiative in starting up a composting program at your school! We hope that other schools in the region can be motivated by your actions, and also reduce waste!
